SNAFF-FAQ

 We look forward to seeing many of you at SNAFF 2024, July 11-14 at The Capitol in Downtown Burlington, Iowa. 
 
For those planning to attend we have some answers to your questions that will make your visit a little easier. 
 
Laurels: You will find the SNAFF 2024 laurels here.
 
You can find the short film and screenplay lineup and schedule below.
 
For writers: Each finalist will have a live table read on the stage of the Capitol Theater featuring local talent. Please email any questions to screenplay coordinator JoJo Arms at JoJoM.Johnson@gmail.com
 
Each accepted writer/filmmaker can register for two free all-access passes. These passes will give you access to all film blocks, table-reads, and SNAFFter parties. 
 
In addition to an event t-shirt, each filmmaker and screenwriter will also receive a free swag bag full of local goods. 
 
Registration is located in the lobby of the Capitol Theater.
 
SNAFFter Parties are all located in downtown Burlington, within walking distance of the theater, and are free to attend. This is a fun time to socialize and wind down after a day of films. Each location will have indoor and outdoor spaces available (weather pending). 
Thursday we will be at Good Restaurant + Lounge, located two blocks down from the Capitol.  
Friday we will be at The Som on Jefferson Street. 
Saturday we'll head to Valley Monster Pub, less than a block from the theater. 
Sunday we end the fest at the Night Cap Listening Lounge, our brand new bar and lounge attached to the Capitol.
 
Lodging - SNAFF has a reserved room block at Fun City Resort. Rooms can be booked by calling 319-753-2946 ext. 5733 and asking for the Snake Alley Festival of Film block. Rooms must be booked by June 20.
 
Travel — We have three nearby major airports. One is in Iowa (Cedar Rapids) and two in Illinois (Moline & Peoria). Flying into these airports is much easier, as far as scheduling, than flying directly into Burlington.
 
The Capitol is located downtown, within a short walking distance of many restaurants, coffee spots, a great record store, and several small shops. Take advantage of our beautiful downtown and support our sponsors!

Suddenly the stone hears some faint sounds in the distance. Might the other spirits still be alive? He finally decides to pry himself loose from his fear of the unknown and take the leap. The new world he finds himself in is raw, but offers new possibilities. Together with the forest spirits, the stone begins to build an unknown future, free of fear.

This short film follows a Deaf woman trapped in a seemingly picture-perfect relationship with a hearing man. She speaks orally and hears with a cochlear implant, appeasing her husband, who does not know her preferred language of American Sign Language. When she finds out that her husband is being investigated for embezzlement, their relationship deteriorates. In a sci-fi/horror twist, when her husband finds himself transported to a mysterious interrogation room, unable to speak, she confronts him about not only stealing from his company, but also of stealing her capacity for self-determination in the name of paternalism. In this way, she finally asserts her language rights and reclaims her identity.

About The Capitol

Located in the heart of downtown, the restored Burlington Capitol Theater recaptures an era when movies and live entertainment were enjoyed in beautiful and unique theaters.

This 1937 Art Deco jewel re-opened in 2012. The intimate 367–seat venue and listening lounge, Night Cap, host independent and classic films as well as local, regional, and national touring artists performing on a 1,500–square foot stage.
